Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood guided the team to their maiden win under his leadership, defeating England in the second Test match by 152 runs at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. This was Pakistan's first Test win on home soil after 3 years and 8 months.
With this win against England, the Men in Green level the series 1-1. Spinners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan picked up all 20 wickets for Pakistan. Both spinners returned to the team after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed a new selection committee.
Shan Masood who just scored 14 runs in the second Test match applauded the team's effort against England.
"First one is always special, it has come after some hard times. A lot has happened over the last week. You have to applaud the group. You can't doubt the effort. It'll be special for everyone. We were able to pick 20 wickets and post decent totals. A change of strategy. We tried green seamers against Bangladesh" said Masood in a post-match conference.
Masood also lavished praise on spinners for picking up 20 wickets. He mentioned Kamran Ghulam who was Babar Azam's replacement for the second Test match. Ghulam was the only batter from Pakistan who scored a century in the second Test.
"We haven't played too much Test cricket in Multan. Noman and Sajid coming in, it's never easy, they looked like seasoned campaigners. Zahid didn't bowl much but he was there for the team and so was Jamal. Everyone chipped in. For Kami (Kamran Ghulam), it's never easy, we were all behind him, he looked like he belonged here. Agha is probably one of my favourite players, he's a team player" added Masood.
Shan Masood's captaincy
Shan Masood was appointed as Pakistan captain after Babar Azam stepped down from all-formats captaincy following the team's poor outing in the ODI World Cup 2023. His first assignment as captain was Pakistan's tour to Australia where Pakistan faced a humiliating 3-0 loss. After the Australia series, he captained during the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan where Pakistan lost 2-0 in a two-Test match series which helped Bangladesh to register their first-ever Test series win against Pakistan.
