Australia secured their spot in the ODI World Cup 2023 final by defeating South Africa in the second semi-final on November 16 in Kolkata. After few hiccups, the five-time ODI World Cup champions chased down the target of 213 runs with 16 balls and three wickets to spare. Pat Cummins-led side are now poised to face hosts India in the ODI World Cup final on November 19, Sunday, in Ahmedabad. However, ahead of the high-voltage grand finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium, an old prediction by Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has resurfaced, causing a stir on the internet.
While featuring in Delhi Capitals' podcast during the IPL 2023, Marsh boldly predicted that Australia would face India in the World Cup 2023 final. With confidence, he went on to predict the specifics of the World Cup final, asserting that Australia would claim victory by a staggering 385 runs after dismissing India for a mere 65 in the final match. While the first half of Marsh's prediction has come true, with Australia, the World Cup's most successful team with five titles (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015), securing their spot in their eighth final after overcoming South Africa, and India reaching their fourth final after 1983, 2003, and 2011. However, the second half of Marsh's prediction remains to be seen.
“Australia will stay undefeated, defeating India in the final, Australia 450-2 in the final, India all out 65,” Marsh had said during IPL 2023.

Notably, Marsh has so far performed exceptionally well in the ongoing ODI World Cup, with 426 runs at an average of 53.25.
While Mitchell Marsh's prediction of Australia and India meeting in the final proved accurate, it is the home team, India, who have reigned supreme throughout the ODI World Cup, maintaining an undefeated streak with victories in all 10 matches played - nine in the round-robin stage and one in the semi-final. Meanwhile, despite their initial hiccups in the tournament, Australia demonstrated scripted a resounding comeback, recording eight straight wins after back-to-back defeats against India and South Africa in their opening matches.
