Australian opener David Warner has clarified his animated outburst towards the umpire during Australia's recent victory over Sri Lanka on October 16. He attributed his rare show of frustration to a desire for greater transparency in the Decision Review System (DRS), particularly concerning the ball-tracking system.

Warner's frustration became evident after he was given out LBW during Australia's pursuit of a 210-run target. His review was unsuccessful, and he reacted strongly to the decision made by on-field umpire Joel Wilson, even smashing his bat as he made his way back to the pavilion while Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka celebrated the prized wicket.

Warner's dissatisfaction was palpable as he repeatedly reviewed the replays from the dressing room, with television cameras capturing his disgruntled demeanor.

"I've never had Hawk-Eye come in and explain to us how the technology actually works, it's just for the TV, If they could come in and explain to us how it works, then sometimes we might (choose) not to refer or to refer," Warner said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.

"In England, the ball bounces and it actually moves once it's bounced, not just off the seam but in the air it can move.

"So there's just little things that as a player you get frustrated because there's no explanation ... but there has to be some accountability," he added.

The incident unfolded in the fourth over when Warner was adjudged LBW to a delivery from Madushanka that seemed to nip back and strike the pads. Warner immediately called for a review, and the replays indicated that the ball was angling down the leg side and might have missed the stumps due to its height. However, the ball-tracking system revealed that the ball had marginally clipped the leg stump, resulting in the decision standing as the umpire's call.

Warner later explained his conversation with umpire Joel Wilson and the factors that led to his frustration upon witnessing the replays on the large screen.

"The umpire said the ball was swinging back so to his credit, if he thinks that then that's why he's given a decision. But then when you see the replay of how it unfolded you get a little bit annoyed, (but) that's out of our control. I just sprayed out loud in frustration pretty much just (to) myself," said Warner.

Despite the early setbacks, Australia managed to secure their first victory in the 2023 World Cup by successfully chasing down the 210-run target in 35.2 overs. Contributions from Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis, both scoring fifties, played a pivotal role in Australia's triumph, marking their first win in the tournament.
