Jamieson had previously been part of the squad as cover for Tim Southee in the earlier stages of the tournament. He is set to arrive in Bengaluru ahead of New Zealand's upcoming match against Pakistan, scheduled for Saturday.

The New Zealand team has been dealing with some setbacks in their bowling department, with Matt Henry undergoing scans for a right hamstring issue and Lockie Ferguson still in the process of recovery from an Achilles injury. To bolster their options and ensure adequate cover in the bowling unit, coach Gary Stead and the team management decided to bring Kyle Jamieson back into the squad.

"The severity of Matt’s injury, combined with a short turnaround to Pakistan, meant we couldn’t risk being a bowler down for Saturday," Stead said.

“Matt’s been a world class performer for us in ODI cricket for the past two World Cup cycles so we’ve got our fingers crossed for the scan results later today," he added.

Stead expressed his confidence in Jamieson's readiness to return to the team in India, emphasizing the need for depth and versatility in the bowling department to face the challenges of the World Cup competition.

"Kyle’s on his way over as we speak and we look forward to welcoming him back into the group," the New Zealand coach continued.

"He’ll likely train with us on Friday with a mind to being available for Saturday’s game.

"Kyle was able to train for two full weeks with us earlier in the tournament and has since played a Plunket Shield match - so we’re confident he’ll be able to hit the ground running," he added.

Jamieson's inclusion provides New Zealand with an additional pace bowling option, and his presence will be crucial as the team aims to navigate the remainder of the tournament successfully. The Kiwis will look to ensure they have all bases covered as they continue their campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup in India.
