In an interview with ESPNcricinfo after the match, Kumble said that Shami could handle the job in every phase but Siraj needed the new ball to be really effective. India lost the final match against Australia in Ahmedabad despite Siraj and Shami picking one wicket each.

"Mohammed Siraj needs the new ball to be really effective. Whereas Mohammed Shami can do the job for all the phases. Siraj somehow gives the impression, at least from what we saw today, that he certainly required the new ball to be a lot more effective," said Kumble.

Shami took the most wickets at the ODI World Cup 2023 and claimed 24 scalps in seven matches.

Meanwhile, Siraj took 14 wickets in 11 matches during the tournament.

Rohit Sharma got India off to a brilliant start with 47 off of 31 balls before being dismissed by Travis Head’s outstanding catch in the World Cup final.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored half-centuries but couldn't convert them into big scores.

Mitchell Starc was the most effective Australian bowler with a three-wicket haul in the final tournament, while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, each took two wickets.

India were bowled out for the first time in the ODI World Cup as the hosts were bundled for 240 runs in 50 overs by Australia.

India’s pacers gave hope of winning by quickly dismissing Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh, and David Warner.

Travis Head broke India’s back with a magnificent century. He partnered with Marnus Labuschagne to win matches. The two batter amassed 192 runs for the fourth wicket to lead Australia to a historic victory.
