Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan etched their names in the annals of Bangladesh cricket history by scripting the highest first-wicket partnership for their team in the ODI World Cup history. The duo weaved together an opening partnership of 93 runs in a remarkable feat which came against in the ongoing ODI World Cup clash against India in Pune on Thursday, October 19.
At the outset of the match, the opening pair Litton Das and Tanzid Tamim gave Bangladesh a modest start as they could only accumulate 10 runs in the first five overs without losing any wickets.
However, as the innings progressed, they changed the gear start building their innings with caution. Tanzid Hasan emerged as the more aggressive of the two, altering the course of the game. His aggression became evident when he dispatched a towering six off the bowling of the formidable Jasprit Bumrah, and from that moment onward, he continued to dominate.
In the face of Litton and Tanzid's onslaught, Hardik Pandya found himself under immense pressure. Litton Das struck a couple of boundaries off Pandya's bowling, forcing the Indian all-rounder to leave the field due to injury. Meanwhile, Tanzid Hasan was particularly merciless against Shardul Thakur. In the pacer's first over, Tanzid accumulated an impressive 16 runs, which included two boundaries and a resounding six.
As the first powerplay concluded, Litton and Tanzid had amassed 63 runs, and their synergy on the field was commendable. Their excellent running between the wickets and well-timed boundaries continued to bolster Bangladesh's scoreboard.
Tanzid Hasan achieved a remarkable milestone during this partnership, reaching his first ODI fifty off just 41 balls. His innings was characterised by a total of five boundaries and three well-executed sixes.
The record-breaking partnership reached its zenith at 93 runs, with Tanzid Hasan facing a dismissal by Kuldeep Yadav. The dismissal saw him caught in front of the stumps. Remarkably, Litton and Tanzid decided against using the review system to contest the decision.
This historic partnership between Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan set a new benchmark for Bangladesh in World Cup history. It eclipsed the previous record of a 69-run partnership held by Mehrab Hossain and Shahriar Hossain during Bangladesh's memorable 62-run victory against Pakistan in Northampton in 1999.
However, after sending Tanzid Hasan to pavilion, India made a comeback and took wickets in clutch. Najmul Hossain Shanto then fell prey to Ravindra Jadeja at the score of 8 and then in no time Mehidy Hasan and Litton Das too were sent packing to leave Bangladesh reeling at 137/4.
