In an attempt to bowl a wide, Kohli delivered a delivery that Edwards misjudged, attempting to glance it away down the leg side. However, KL Rahul's brilliant work behind the stumps resulted in a spectacular catch, sealing the dismissal to light up the Chinnaswamy stadium. Kohli's wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, from stands, too joined husband in the celebration to double the joy.

Notably, this was Kohli's fifth wicket in One-Day Internationals, and his first in the World Cup, adding another feather to his already illustrious cricketing career. He had previously dismissed Alastair Cook, Craig Kieswetter, Brendan McCullum, and Quinton de Kock in ODIs.

Prior to this match, Kohli had also bowled an over during the match against Bangladesh, when he replaced Hardik Pandya after the latter sustained an ankle injury. Soon after Edwards' dismissal, Jasprit Bumrah removed Bas de Leede to leave Netherlands teetering at 144/5 after 32 overs.

Earlier, batting first, India in a dominant batting display rode on magnificent centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to post an imposing total of 410/4 against Netherlands on Sunday.

Iyer, playing a career-defining knock, smashed an unbeaten 128 off 94 balls, his highest ODI score to date. Rahul, on the other hand, produced an even more scintillating performance, hammering the fastest World Cup century by an Indian batter, reaching his ton in just 64 balls. The duo stitched a swashbuckling partnership 208 off 128 balls.

India's top order also contributed significantly to the team's massive total. Rohit Sharma (61), Virat Kohli (51), and Shubman Gill (51) all struck sizzling half-centuries, setting the stage for Iyer and Rahul's explosive partnership.

The Netherlands' bowling attack struggled to contain India's batting onslaught, with Bas de Leede (2/82), Paul van Meekeren (1/90), and Roelof van der Merwe (1/53) managing to share the wickets.
