Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma shared an interesting anecdote about the team's camaraderie, revealing that they hosted a secret fashion show in the dressing room following their victory over New Zealand in last month's World Cup 2023 match at Dharamsala's Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.
This light-hearted event came after India's match with the Kiwis and just before their game against Bangladesh in Pune. Rohit highlighted this as an example of the positive and lively atmosphere prevailing in the Indian dressing room. He made these comments ahead of the highly anticipated semi-final against New Zealand, scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
The Indian captain emphasised that creating such a harmonious team environment isn't the work of one or two individuals but a collective effort. This spirit has been a part of the team's success in the World Cup, where India remained undefeated in all nine of their league stage matches. Of these, the closest contest was against New Zealand, the very team they had earlier celebrated the win with their impromptu fashion show.
"That's a conscious effort. We wanted to build it and that couldn't be done with one or two players. All of them have chipped in, including the support staff. We even had a secret fashion show in Dharamsala which thankfully no one knows about," Rohit said during the pre-match press conference.
Rohit himself has shown remarkable form with the bat throughout the tournament. Other key batsmen like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul have also been contributing significantly. In the bowling department, the fast-bowling trio of Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah have consistently troubled opposing batsmen. Complementing their efforts, the spin pair of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja has effectively penetrated opposition batting lines.
This blend of on-field excellence and off-field camaraderie has been a hallmark of the Indian team's journey in the ongoing World Cup. As they prepare to face New Zealand in the semi-final, the team's unity and high spirits, coupled with their impressive league stage performance, make them formidable contenders for the title.
