After notching back-to-back wins, New Zealand locked horns with Bangladesh in their ODI World Cup match at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai on October 13, Friday. After being put to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start. They were precariously poised at 56/4 by the 13th over. This dire situation called for some resilience, and that's precisely what Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan brought to the pitch. With a tenacious partnership, the duo aimed to steer their team out of troubled waters.
However, the game took a turn in the 30th over when skipper Shakib was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 40 off 51. Mushfiqur Rahim, on the other hand, continued his defiant act, crafting a commendable half-century. But just when he seemed to be anchoring the Bangladesh's innings, the 36th over witnessed a game-changing moment, courtesy of New Zealand's Matt Henry.
Henry showcased his bowling artistry with a masterful delivery to counter Rahim's offense. By expertly reducing the pace at the very last moment and aiming for the off-stump line, he caught Rahim off-guard. In an attempt to dispatch the ball to the mid-wicket region, Rahim came forward, but the ball's unexpected lower trajectory led to his dismissal. As the ball crashed into the stumps, Rahim found himself floored on the ground as his spirited resistance on the crease came to a screeching halt. Mushfiqur's valiant effort of 66 runs off 75 balls was decorated with six fours and two sixes. His's dismissal halted Bangladesh's momentum as Shakib's men posted a not-so-competitive total of 245/9 in their stipulated 50 overs.
