Pakistan's tearaway speedster Haris Rauf etched his name in an unwanted record books as he became the bowler to concede most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup.
Rauf surpassed the previous record of 526 runs held by England leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who set the mark in 2019.
Rauf's record-breaking feat came during Pakistan's league match against England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 11, Saturday. While he managed to take 15 wickets in nine innings in the ongoing ODI World Cup, his economy rate of 6.89 was the highest among bowlers with at least 10 wickets.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka came close to challenging Rauf's record but ended his 2023 World Cup campaign just one run shy of the mark, conceding 525 runs in nine innings. With this record, Rauf joins an exclusive list of bowlers who have conceded over 500 runs in a single World Cup edition. The other bowlers to achieve this feat are Rashid, Mitchell Starc (524 runs in 2015), and Glenn McGrath (504 runs in 1999).
