Australia captain Pat Cummins on August 15 (Tuesday) said that he is likely to make a comeback to international cricket during the Baggy Greens' three-match ODI series against India in September. Cummins was ruled out for a period of at least six weeks with a left wrist injury. He will miss Australia's upcoming tour of South Africa where the Baggy Greens are scheduled to play five ODIs after three T20Is.

"I'll head over to South Africa at the back-end of that leg. But we're probably looking more at those one-dayers (against India) ahead of the World Cup," Cummins said.

"It shouldn't be too bad. Another few weeks and it'll be right," he added.

The ODI series between India and Australia will begin on September 22. Both countries will look to iron out their flaws in that series as it will be their final bilateral assignment before the ODI World Cup that commences on October 5.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia had earlier announced an extended 18-member senior men's national team squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup slated to begin on October 5. Fast bowler Pat Cummins will lead the Baggy Greens in the quadrennial competition while no vice-captain has been announced.

The Australian squad for the World Cup will be trimmed down to 15 players by September while the 18-member squad announced will feature in South Africa and India ODIs, the two series which Australia are scheduled to play before the World Cup.
