Prithvi Shaw after stellar List A return in English One-Day Cup: Just want to have a good time here

Ignored Indian right-handed batter Prithvi Shaw continues to make waves on the cricket field, setting aside concerns about his selection to Team India. On August 9, Wednesday, he etched his name in the record books, delivering the sixth-highest individual score in List A cricket history during the English One-Day Cup.

Representing Northamptonshire, Shaw unleashed a masterclass with his 244-run knock off a mere 153 balls against Somerset at the County Ground. His stellar innings was adorned with 28 boundaries and 11 massive sixes, catapulting the Steelbacks to an imposing total of 415/8 in their stipulated 50 overs.

Shaw's international cricket journey with India has been on a hiatus since July 2021. Focusing on the present, Shaw expressed his contentment with the camaraderie and experience at Northants, saying, "Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here... Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity... I'm really enjoying it."

Capitalising on Shaw's brilliance, Northants clinched a decisive victory over Somerset, winning by 87 runs. After modest scores in his initial two outings for Northants, Shaw's third innings showcased his prodigious talent. Reflecting on his day under the sun, Shaw said, "The sun was out, it felt almost like Indian weather... I felt that this day was for me. You have to be lucky sometimes, so I think this was a day for me."

Interestingly, Shaw had previously delivered a similar innings of 227 runs off 152 balls for Mumbai during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Puducherry in February 2021. This earlier achievement was eclipsed by his latest feat. "The 227 was in my head," Shaw confessed, "I told Whitey [Whiteman] about it. But the focus was always on the team's success. I always prioritise the team over personal milestones. If my scores can bolster my team's chances, I aim to keep delivering."
