The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 has been hectic for the hosts led by Rohit Sharma. Unlike any other team in the tournament, India played each of their nine games at different venues which required a lot of travelling. When the players got time off between the games, they tried to unwind in different ways. In Dharamsala, the coaching staff and a few players went trekking after getting the better of New Zealand. Ahead of the all-important semi-final against the same side, Rohit revealed that there was also a fashion show among a few activities planned for a couple of days off before they travelled to Lucknow to go up against the defending champions England.
“The environment we have around the team is mandatory and all the boys have to come together. So in Dharamsala when we had a couple of days free, we did a couple of activities including a fashion show, which not many know about. So we try to keep relaxed,” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
However, Rohit said that once the players get on the ground they approach the game the way it needs to be. He also said that these activities started in Australia at Perth during a short camp.
“In Australia at Perth, we had a short camp and that’s where it all started. It has been happening for more than a couple of years,” the 36-year-old said.
Earlier, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir lauded Rohit for keeping the dressing room secure. Gambhir also said that it is the reason why he has led Mumbai Indians (MI) to five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles.
"A good captain and leader give you security, which makes the dressing room secure, not only for himself but for the other 14 players as well. And Rohit Sharma has done that," Gambhir told Star Sports.
"That's why he has won five IPL trophies. That's where his winning ratio when he started playing all those international games has been fabulous. If you go by the stats and the trophies, he ticks all the boxes. But the most important thing is he has made that dressing room a very secure dressing room."
