The journey of Ashwin to the World Cup 2023 has been filled with twists and turns. Despite being an eminent player, he found himself on the outskirts of the primary World Cup team blueprint. Interestingly, he was among the unnamed reserves identified by the selection committee. However, fate had different plans. Axar Patel, a key spin-bowling all-rounder, succumbed to a quadricep tear during a game in Colombo. This unforeseen setback paved the way for Ashwin to secure his spot in the 15-member World Cup lineup.

Ashwin's exceptional display of skills in the ODI series against Australia significantly influenced his World Cup inclusion. He was incorporated into India's ODI team for the tri-series against Australia and showcased exemplary talent. Over two matches, he scalped four crucial wickets, with a standout performance of 3/41 in Indore. These noteworthy contributions ensured his position as an immediate substitute for the injured Axar Patel in the World Cup contingent, as revealed on September 28, 2023.

Ashwin continued to impress during India's opener against Australia in Chennai, claiming the wicket of Cameron Green and registering an economical 10-over spell with 1/34. Notably, Ashwin was also a part of the triumphant 2011 World Cup team, playing alongside the iconic Tendulkar.

Sharing his insights on his YouTube channel, Tendulkar extolled Ashwin's vast experience and unwavering commitment to the game. The legendary batsman highlighted Ashwin's commendable attitude, praising him for his prowess both as a potent bowler and a valuable batsman. This endorsement by Tendulkar underscores Ashwin's pivotal role in the ongoing World Cup.

"He is an experienced campaigner and someone who will fight till the last delivery. I know it. He would never be out of the game. His attitude, His approach towards the game is magnificent. I've always liked Ashwin as a bowler and a handy batsman," said Tendulkar.
