India's pace spearhead Mohammed Shami is on a roll in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. In mere four matches, Shami has already picked 16 wickets riding on two robust five-wicket hauls and a stunning four-fer. Shami also scripted history in India's World Cup match against Sri Lanka as he became the highest-wicket taker for Men in Blue in the World Cup history.
Riding on his match-winning fifer against Sri Lanka, Shami shattered Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath's records of 44 wickets as he went one above them with 45 scalps in the showpiece event. Not just this Shami also made it to the top 10 list list of most wicket-takers in the World Cup history which is led by Glenn McGrath with 71 wickets. Mitchell Starc and Trent Boult are the only active bowlers who have more World Cup wickets than Shami. While Starc has 56 scalps, Boult has 49 respectively.
Meanwhile, in the backdrop of his success in the ongoing World Cup, the star pacer has received a marriage proposal from the Bollywood actor Payal Ghosh. Actress-turned-politician Payal took to X (previously known as Twitter) to propose Shami and expressed her wish to become his second wife.
“Shami Tum apna English sudharlo, I’m ready to marry you,” she wrote.
Since Payal's marriage proposal, her tweet started doing rounds on internet leaving netizen wondering about the possibility of the offer. Talking about Payal, she was born in Kolkata in 1992, and completed her education at St. Paul's Mission School before graduating in Political Science from Scottish Church College. Aspiring to become an actress, she moved to Mumbai, where she met Chandra Sekhar Yeleti, who offered her a role in the film "Prayanam." Payal's acting credits also include movies like "Varshadhaare," "Oosaravelli," "Mr. Rascal," and "Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi." In October 2020, she ventured into politics, joining Ramdas Athawale's political party and assuming the position of vice president of its women's wing.
As far as Shami's first marriage is concerned, he was married to Hasin Jahan and the couple tied the knot in 2014 and welcomed a baby girl in 2015. However, their relationship didn't go down well and remained marred by controversies. Hasin Jahan reportedly filed a case against Shami alleging marital infidelity, match-fixing, and domestic violence. However, these accusations are yet to be proven in court.
Shami on the other hand is making his stride in the ongoing World Cup 2023 and played a significant role in catapulting India to the tournament's semifinals.
