Former India captain and legendary batter, Sunil Gavaskar has made a significant prediction concerning Virat Kohli and his impending world record in ODI cricket. The cricketing legend, often referred to as the "Little Master," has foreseen a momentous occasion for Kohli's 50th ODI century.
Gavaskar's prediction is that Kohli will achieve his 50th ODI century on November 5, a date that holds special significance as it also marks the superstar's birthday. According to Gavaskar, there couldn't be a more fitting and grand occasion for Kohli to etch his name in the record books.
"Kohli will slam his 50th ODI Century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday?” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
"It's a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savour for every batter,” he added.
The prediction comes as Kohli is on the cusp of a historic milestone. He currently boasts an impressive 48 ODI centuries, trailing only behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar by a single century. Kohli needs just two more centuries to set a new world record for the most centuries in ODI cricket.
Kohli's recent performances have been noteworthy, with 354 runs to his name in five innings, including a century against Bangladesh in Pune. As he approaches his 49th century, cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the historic moment.
The next few matches in the ICC World Cup tournament will be crucial for Kohli's pursuit of this milestone. India is scheduled to face England on October 29 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, followed by a clash against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on November 2. It remains to be seen if either of these matches will witness Kohli achieving his 49th ODI century and edging closer to the world record.
