Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has showered praise on Virat Kohli for his exceptional ability to maintain composure during tense situations. Kohli, the right-handed Indian batsman, is currently showcasing his brilliance in the World Cup 2023, earning accolades for his remarkable performance.
As of now, Kohli stands as the leading run-scorer for the Indian team, amassing an impressive 354 runs from five matches at an average of 118 and a strike rate of 90.53. His remarkable statistics include one century and three half-centuries, solidifying his reputation as one of the premier batsmen in the cricketing world.
"The ability to control his own mind and his own batting while chaos can be happening around him is one of the huge admirations for Virat," Doull said in a video uploaded on ICC.
Simon Doull, currently working as a commentator in the mega event hosted in India, commended Kohli for his remarkable ability to excel in run-chases. In successful run-chases in ODIs, Kohli boasts an incredible average of 90.40, having accumulated 5786 runs from 102 matches, featuring 23 centuries and 25 half-centuries.
"He averages in excess of 90 in run-chases. When you look at some of the great players who average 50, 54, 55, the likes of (Jacques) Kallis, (Sachin) Tendulkar and those sorts of players; to be almost 40 above them in run-chases is just phenomenal," he added.
With India set to face England, led by Jos Buttler, on Sunday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Kohli aims to continue his stellar run in the tournament. If he manages to score 78 runs in the upcoming match, he will surpass South Africa's Quinton de Kock as the leading run-scorer of the competition, further cementing his status as one of the tournament's standout performers.
