It was yet another Virat Kohli masterclass in a run chase that sealed the deal for Team India on October 22 (Sunday) in Dharamsala. While the Indian superstar and maverick batter fell five runs short of what would have been another scintillating century in run chases, Kohli did enough to ensure the Men in Blue remain unbeaten in the ongoing ODI World Cup and scaled to the top of the points table by making it five wins in as many matches played.

It was the third time in this year's tournament that Kohli orchestrated India's chase like a master he is. First, it was against Australia under extreme pressure, then came the 103-run knock against Bangladesh and now the Blackcaps were on the receiving end of the King's sheer will and determination. The stylish right-handed batter scored 95 runs before he was caught in the deep as he tried to reach three figures with a maximum. It's important to note that Kohli registered a half-century against Afghanistan which also came in a run chase.

Opposition bowlers and captains have found it extremely difficult to dismiss Kohli in run chases, not just in this World Cup but throughout the maverick batter's career.

When quizzed about what can be done to dismiss the Indian batter in run chases, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham came up with an insightful answer and emphasised the importance of match-ups.

"Kohli played a fantastic innings. Controlled the tempo and the rest could bat around him. As a captain, you have to be proactive but also work to your plans. Think about match-ups. Virat has a response to most plans," Latham told the host broadcaster after the match.

Kohli's brilliance with the bat helped India clinch the game by four wickets with two overs to spare. After another attractive innings, Kohli scaled to the top of the run-scoring charts in this World Cup. Kohli now has 354 runs in five innings and averages a stunning 118.
