The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team secured yet another resounding victory, maintaining their winning streak at the ODI World Cup 2023 with a win over Sri Lanka at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, October 3. With a 302-run triumph, India became the first team to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
With an impressive batting performance, the Indian team amassed a total of 357/8, after which the Indian bowlers displayed skill and acumen to dismiss the Sri Lankan team for a meagre 55 runs, solidifying India's triumph in an extraordinary fashion.
In a post-match presentation, Rohit expressed his elation at the team's official qualification for the semi-finals. Emphasising the team's unwavering commitment to their goals, Rohit highlighted the approach and collective effort that propelled the team to their remarkable success in the tournament.
"The way we approached these seven games, it was quite clinical. Everyone put in the effort, and a lot of individuals have put their hand up," remarked Rohit Sharma, reflecting on the collective dedication and teamwork that defined the team's journey to victory.
Strategic decision-making and DRS calls
An integral aspect of the match was the pivotal role of Decision Review System (DRS) calls, which played a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the game. Rohit Sharma acknowledged the vital contributions of KL Rahul, who exhibited remarkable accuracy in crucial DRS calls, demonstrating the team's strategic acumen and adept decision-making on the field.
"I have left it to the bowler and the keeper (whether or not to take a review) to make that decision for me, and I gotta find the individuals I can trust and I know it can go the other way as well. We got one right and one wrong today," he said.
He also showered praise on the team's players, specifically commending the performance of Shreyas Iyer, who returned to form with a commendable 82 runs off 56 balls. Highlighting Iyer's invaluable contributions, Rohit said, "That's the kind of template you need to have when you want to score that many runs, and 350 on any pitch is a very good score and a lot of credit to the batting unit for taking us to that score," he said.
"Shreyas is a very strong (in his mind) lad and he went there and did what he is exactly known for and that is what we expect from him. Shreyas showed that he is ready to take the challenge that is in front of him," the India skipper added.
