The former India batter anchored the innings and reached his century in 106 balls. Despite grappling with cramps in the 90s, Kohli reached his milestone century, marking his third in the ongoing edition of the tournament.

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa took to Twitter to express his joy, describing Kohli's feat as an extraordinary tale of cricketing greatness.

In addition to his record-breaking century, Kohli set several other milestones. At 35 years old, he now holds the record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition, surpassing Tendulkar's 673 runs in the 2003 edition. Kohli achieved an impressive total of 711 runs in the current tournament.

Furthermore, he broke Tendulkar and Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasanโ€™s record for the most fifty-plus scores in a single World Cup edition. While Tendulkar had achieved this feat in 2003, Shakib accomplished it in the previous edition.

Sachin also took to Twitter to share his appreciation for Kohli's massive achievement. "The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldnโ€™t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill. I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a โ€˜Viratโ€™ player."

"I couldnโ€™t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage - in the World Cup Semi-final - and at my home ground is the icing on the cake," he wrote on Twitter.

Kohli chose to dedicate his record 50th hundred in ODIs to Sachin Tendulkar after he broke the Master Blaster's record during the all-important World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand on at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 15.

He bowed down to Sachin Tendulkar after reaching the landmark, and the former opener also stood up and applauded Kohli after the latter broke his record.

He also got flying kisses from movie star and wife Anushka Sharma, who has been a pillar during his journey to the top.
