Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim picked a blinder of a catch during their ODI World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka to get the wicket of Kusal Perera, as he helped give his side a brilliant start at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.

The catch came early in the match when Bangladesh left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam got the ball to swing away from Perera. The batter, taking the place of Dimuth Karunaratne in the Playing XI, went for a drive which did not come off. The ball edged the bat as Mushfiqur Rahim moved to his left and dived before grabbing the ball in front of the first slip's face with his left hand.

This was after Perera hit a lovely cover drive to an over-pitched delivery from Shoriful.

The commentators, including former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja, were amazed by Mushfiqur Rahim's impressive dive, serving as a morale boost for Bangladesh, who have struggled in the World Cup, with six consecutive losses in seven matches.

During the match, Sri Lanka finished with a total score of 279 all out in 49.3 overs, including a century from Charith Asalanka and valuable contributions of 41 runs each from opener Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama, both playing in the middle order.

Meanwhile, there have been several strong contenders for the catch of the tournament, with India's KL Rahul and Kane Williamson showcasing exceptional catches.

India, under the guidance of fielding coach T Dilip, have implemented a new system of awarding fielding medals, contributing to their outstanding performance as they lead the World Cup 2023 points table with eight consecutive victories. After their win over South Africa, Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the award for his excellent display at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on November 5.
