The dilemma around the appointment of the Indian cricket team's new head coach is getting bigger with each passing day. BCCI's hunt for Rahul Dravid's replacement has been facing a lot of dead ends as some renowned coaches and former cricketers have turned down the offer considering the hectic schedule and pressure. Now, Virat Kohli's friend and former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has opened up on the opportunity to coach Team India.
AB de Villiers on coaching Team India
AB de Villiers said that he would actually love coaching but there are certain elements that he will have to learn. He said his experience can be valuable for both young and senior players.
"I absolutely have no idea. I do think I’ll enjoy coaching. I think there are certain elements I won’t enjoy as much, which I will have to learn. With time, anything is possible and I can think on my feet and learn as I move on," De Villiers told News18.
“But I think there are elements of a coaching job that I’ll enjoy a lot. Things that I’ve learned over the years, the maturity that I’ve got now at the age of 40, looking back, a lot of things look a lot clearer when I look back at my career. So those kind of learnings could be valuable for some younger players, even some senior players,” De Villiers added.
De Villiers doesn't see himself as coach as for now
Legendary South African cricketer is open to the idea of coaching but doesn't find the appeal in that role as for now. However, he said anything is possible down the line and it is actually possible to see him in that role.
"And I would love to work with some players and some teams in that regard. As a full-time head coach, that’s not something that comes to mind as of yet. It’s not something that really appeals to me now. But as I said, never say never. Down the line, things might change," said De Villiers.
