Highlights:

Tanzim Hasan Sakib bagged four wickets against Nepal in the must-win clash.

Sakib sledged and pushed Nepal captain Rohit Paudel during the altercation.

Bangladesh's young fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage match against Nepal. Sakib had a heated exchange with Nepal captain Rohit Paudel. It also appeared that he pushed the batter before Kushal Malla, on-field umpires and Bangladesh players intervened.

Tanzim breached the Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match".

On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski along with third umpire Jayaraman Mandangopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena levelled the charges. There was no need for a formal hearing as the 21-year-old admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richards who is part of ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

In addition, one demerit point has been handed to Tanzim. This was his first offence in a 24-month period. Over the course of next two years, if he gets three or more demerit points, it will be followed by a ban of one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever format is being played at the moment.

Tanzim’s sensational spell

Tanzim was sensational against Nepal as he bagged four wickets for just seven runs defending a small target of 107. He bowled 21 dot balls in a row which was a record in T20 World Cups before New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson broke it with four maiden overs in a row.

Bangladesh beat Nepal by 21 runs to confirm their spot in the Super 8s. They will take on Australia at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua on June 20.

Nepal captain douses the flames

After Nepal's defeat, Paudel refused to focus on his on-field altercation with Sakib and downplayed the series of events.

"No, I think Tanzim bowled really well. Especially he, I would say he outplayed us with the new ball. He bowled really well because the wicket was very challenging. And I think he bowled in right areas. And he asked difficult questions to us. So, there's nothing between us. Just he came and he told me to hit. And I said, go and bowl. Nothing else," said Paudel in the post-match presentation.
