India's premier T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav lambasted netizens for creating controversy on his game-changing catch in the final of T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa on June 29 at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Suryakumar Yadav picked up David Miller's catch South Africa needed 16 runs in 6 balls to win the title. Suryakumar, stationed at long-off, produced a sensational grab, diving full stretch to seemingly deny Miller a six. He ensured he stayed within the boundary line, then smartly flung the ball up before completing the catch to dismiss the key batsman.

Answering media questions on the comments claiming he touched the boundary line, Yadav said, “I didn’t touch the line when I caught the ball in the final match against South Africa. We can’t keep everyone happy. I did what occurred to me as correct. By the grace of God, I was there when the ball came towards me. I got a chance to take the catch. I am relishing that moment.”

When asked if he has trained to take such a catch, Suryakumar Yadav stated, “I had practiced many times to take a catch like that one. During the match, my mind was calm. God gave me an opportunity to do well for the country.”

Why Suryakumar Yadav's catch created controversy

The catch by Suryakumar Yadav created controversy because during the replays the boundary rope appeared to be behind the line marked as the boundary. However, the truth has come to light, the marked line was not the actual boundary. In fact, the boundary rope was behind the marker for the entire final match. The reason for this lies in the pitch used for the match. To ensure the boundary size was not too small, the rope was placed further back. The line seen in the visuals was from a previous match at the venue where the rope had been positioned further ahead.

Suryakumar Yadav is currently on rest after the hectic schedule of the World Cup the stylish batter will most likely to be seen in action in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka which will likely to start from July 27 to August 7.
