India's fast-bowling Jasprit Bumrah chose to look at the brighter side as India had very little time between the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal and final. India beat England in a rain-affected match in Guyana on June 27 and then travel to Barbados for the final clash against South Africa. As a result, Indian team had to cancel their practice session to keep themselves fresh for the title match.
However, Bumrah feels that lack of time between the two games is a blessing in disguise.
"It is a good thing sometimes when you don't have a lot of time to overplan or confuse yourself or complicate things. So you know, you are straight on the flight, rest and recover and no time to think and no complications," Bumrah told TV presenter and his wife Sanjana Ganesan ahead of the final encounter.
Bumrah hails captain Rohit
Bumrah was also asked about skipper Rohit Sharma's captaincy style in the tournament. He praised the captain for giving players freedom to express themselves.
"Rohit Sharma has been absolutely phenomenal. Even in the previous World Cup you know, he has been proactive, he gives a lot of freedom to his players, he lets the players express themselves. When he feels the right time, he shares his own experience during the match. So ya, it feels really great and I feel very happy playing under him and the confidence of the group is also very high," the fast bowler said.
Bumrah’s excellent economy rate
While Arshdeep Singh is India's leading wicket-taker in the tournament, Bumrah has been putting pressure on batters by not letting them score freely. The 30-year-old has an economy rate of 4.13 runs per over. Also, his fifth on the list of leading wicket-takers in the ongoing edition with 13 wickets from seven games at an outstanding average of 8.15.
Bumrah’s unimpressive T20I record vs South Africa
However, Bumrah does not have a good record against South Africa. The last time he faced South Africa in T20Is was in 2018. He has just one wicket from two T20Is against the Proteas. However, his current form may have given Aiden Markram-led side a few sleepless nights.
