Former England captain Nasser Hussain reckoned that tinkering with the coaches and captain just before the T20 World Cup 2024 is costing Pakistan in the ongoing tournament. Pakistan are currently struggling in the marquee event as they are still looking for their maiden victory. He also pointed out PCB's move to again appoint Babar Azam as their skipper.
Hussain slammed PCB during the pre-match broadcast for South Africa and Bangladesh's Group-D match with legendary pacer Waqar Younis.
"To be honest. So you know, it's typical for Pakistan just before the tournament they change coach. Just before the tournament, they go back to their old opening combination when they've gone for a younger lad named Saim Ayub. They are constantly tinkering and went back to the captain, they dropped Shaheen Afridi from the post. You need clarity going into a tournament, and they just haven't had that clarity in selection, captain, coach, everything. There's not been that clarity," Nasser said.
Last edition's finalists England and Pakistan are currently struggling in the ongoing World Cup. Defending champions England are still looking for their maiden victory and they are currently on the verge of getting out of the World Cup.
"Pakistan and England, both sides who were in the final last time, are struggling a little bit England as well. So he will be under pressure not so much as a batter. He's a world-class player. But if he had batted through against India, I think Pakistan would have won that game and that again goes back to Bumrah. He gets good players out."
Hussain also lavished praise on Jasprit Bumrah for his bowling against Pakistan. Bumrah's crucial three-fer helped India to outclass Pakistan by six runs in the nail-biter clash at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
"He gets Rizwan out, he gets Babar out. You know he does the hard work. So Babar will be under pressure. I saw him in England at the Oval and they were poor. And I said at that stage, if they play like that in the World Cup sides, and I'm not just talking about India, other sides in the group will think we can beat them," Hussain added.
