Rusty Theron accused Haris Rauf of ball tempering

Former South Africa cricketer and USA cricket team member Juan Rusty Theron accused Haris Rauf of ball tempering during the T20 World Cup 2024 match between the USA and Pakistan at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Theron posted that before Pakistan lost their opener clash against the co-hosts in a match that was decided via Super Over.

Pakistan changed the ball after the 12th over when the USA were 94 for one. USA were dominating in the game as their skipper Monank Patel smashed Shaheen Shah Afridi for a boundary and six on consecutive deliveries in the over before Haris dismissed Andries Gous in the first ball of the next over. Rauf's ball showed a hint of reverse swing as the good-length ball struck the top of the off stump.

After Andries Gous's dismissal, Theron took X to accuse Haris of scratching the freshly-changed ball with his fingernail and that is why he got reverse swing.

"@ICC are we just going to pretend Pakistan aren't scratching the hell out of this freshly changed ball? Reversing the ball that's just been changed 2 overs ago? You can literally see Harris Rauf running his thumb nail over the ball at the top of his mark. @usacricket" wrote Theron.

Babar Azam on Pakistan's loss against USA

Pakistan captain Babar Azam reckoned that USA played better than them in all the departments. He also said that not taking wickets in the middle over led them to a defeat.

First 6 overs while batting we didn’t capitalise. Back to back wickets always put you on the back foot, as a batter you need to step up and build partnerships. We were not up to the mark in the first 6 overs with the ball. Our spinners also did not take wickets in the middle overs so these things cost us. Very hard, all credit to USA, they played better than us in all three departments. Little bit of moisture in the pitch, it was also two-paced. As a professional you need to assess the conditions.

Mohammad Amir's horror show during the Super Over, conceding 18 runs where seven were from extras helped the United States to script their biggest ever international victory.
