Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history.

Kohli has played just two T20Is since T20 World Cup 2022.

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria does not believe in reports of Virat Kohli not being considered for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. Kaneria feels that it is not time to look beyond Kohli. The former leg-spinner believes that the buzz on social media is false and that anything can go viral.

"How can you ignore him (Virat)? He should be in India's squad. He has been scoring runs, it is not a time to look beyond Kohli, it is a time to have Kohli in your squad, who can also groom youngsters. India is doing pretty good and Kohli should be in India's squad, there is no doubt about it," the 43-year-old said.

Kohli has played just two T20Is since the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final exit at the hands of Jos Buttler’s England. The two T20I appearances were against Afghanistan earlier this year. He contributed with a cameo in the second T20I and registered a duck in the third T20I. He will have a chance to prove himself again in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Kaneria’s message to BCCI

Kaneria also has a few suggestions for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He wants the board to talk to the franchises about the workload management of key players.

"BCCI must have a word with the franchises, to put less load on core players. Because the BCCI will not want any player to be ruled out due to injury. Rishabh Pant is back, Jasprit Bumrah has been the main man for India, management should take care that Bumrah does not suffer any injury during IPL. In batting, Yashwasi Jaiswal has made an impact in recent times," he said.

Coaching role in IPL?

In addition, he is open to a coaching role in any of the IPL franchises and sharing his knowledge with the young bowlers.

"If any IPL team calls me, I will look forward to it. Leg spin is a difficult art in cricket, I want to deliver, I want to coach the young generation and will love to work with any team," he said.
