It was a day of celebration for more than 141 crore people as the Rohit Indian cricket team lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy after defeating South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, on June 29 (Saturday). Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi was all praise for the Men in Blue for bringing the glory home and after the match, he even called the Indian team and appreciated all the heroes of this big win.
PM Modi praises Indian players
PM Modi called the Indian team and praised everyone for their effort in helping bring the coveted trophy home after 17 years. He lauded everyone from Rohit Sharma to Virat Kohli and even congratulated him for his tenure as the Indian head coach and thanked him for guiding the Men in Blue.
The honorable Prime Minister also praised Hardik Pandya for his heroics and Suryakuamr Yadav for that game-changing catch. He also talked highly of Jasprit Bumrah's contributions throughout this mega tournament. The Indian players brought a lot of happiness.
India clinch second T20 World Cup 2024
Team India clinched their second T20 World Cup title and became the first undefeated team in history to win the coveted title. They also become the first team to win all ICC trophies (T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy) twice.
Indian won the toss and elected to bat first and managed to post 176/7 on the scoreboard with the help of an astonishing fifty from Virat Kohli and great cameo knocks from Axar Patel and Shivam Dube. Then during the chase, Heinrich Klaasen also smashed a blazing fifty and almost took the game away from the Indian team. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya's heroics helped India come back into the match and win it by 7 runs.
