20 teams are gearing up for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to be held in the West Indies and United States. Ahead of the mega tournament, the Australian cricket team has made a big addition to their squad. Rising star Jake Fraser-McGurk has joined the Aussie team as their traveling reserve for the marquee event. Matt Short has joined the team as well in a last-minute call-up. However, there are no changes in the original 15-member squad led by Mitchell Marsh.

George Bailey on Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short

Australian chair of selectors George Bailey praised Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short for their recent performances. He said both made great cases for their addition into the squad. He said sudden injuries make it difficult to find short-notice replacements, so having reserves provides good cover.

"As the tournament proceeds, the short turnaround between fixtures makes it challenging to get players in at short notice in the event of injury. Matt provides the squad with an all-round skillset option, while Jake provides further batting cover. Both players have exciting talents that can add to the squad if needed. If not, the experience will still be valuable in their respective development journeys at the international level," said Bailey
