Afghanistan defeated Australia by 8 runs by the DLS method.

Afghanistan will now face South Africa for T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final.

Afghanistan bowling all-rounder Gulbadin Naib reacted to Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's post for his theatrical collapse during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 clash against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Naib, who was fielding in the slip cordon, complained of cramps during the 12th over bowled by spinner Noor Ahmad, after Trott was seen on camera asking his players to slow down as Bangladesh had fallen behind on the Duckworth-Lewis par score in the rain-hit Super 8 clash.

The match saw frequent rain interruptions and Bangladesh, at that stage, were 81 for 7, two runs behind on the DLS par score in a revised chase of 114 in 19 overs. Afghans eventually prevailed by eight runs to enter their maiden World Cup semifinal.

Afghanistan vs Bangladesh Match Report

The eight-run win over Bangladesh in a rain-truncated Super 8 match helped the Afghans join India, England and South Africa in the last-four stage. In the process, former champions Australia, who have repeatedly refused to host Afghanistan due to the Taliban rule here, were knocked out. Afghanistan had earlier humbled New Zealand in the league stage and beaten Australia in a Super 8 clash some days back.

The moment Mustafizur Rehman was trapped leg before by Naveen-ul-Haq, the streets in Khost, Paktia and Kabul began to overflow with fans to celebrate the historic day. Afghanistan have sealed their berth into the semifinal where they will face South Africa on June 27 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
