Australia beat Namibia by nine wickets with more than 14 overs to spare.

Australia continued their unbeaten run in the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage with a convincing nine-wicket win over Namibia on June 12. Australia bowled out Namibia for 72 and then chased down the target within powerplay overs to cement their place in Super 8s. After the win, Mitchell Marsh was asked about how the Australian players are enjoying their time off to which he had a quirky answer.

“Probably not as many beers as you had back in the day Haydos (Matthew Hayden). Lots of beach days and it's like being back in Perth, we are enjoying it,” Marsh said in the post-match presentation.

Marsh praises Zampa

Marsh lauded his team for an exceptional effort, especially Adam Zampa who continued his good form and bagged four wickets.

“I thought it was a great performance from the bowling team. Swing was around and all-round a professional performance. It's really important and great to qualify for the super eights.. We will manage as many as we can over the next few days. [on Zampa] If you look at his career over the last 4-5 years, he's probably our most important player. He loves the pressure and he is bowling well at the moment and we are lucky to have him,” Marsh said.

Marsh is yet to recover fully from the hamstring injury as he hasn't bowled yet. He walked in to bat in the second over when David Warner departed for an eight-ball 20 cameo. He scored 20 runs. Marsh hit three fours and a six in his nine-ball 18 as he finished the run chase in the sixth over. On the other hand, Travis Head contributed with a 17-ball 34.

Zampa achieves milestone

Meanwhile, Zampa became the first Australian bowler to bag 100 T20I wickets. He achieved the milestone in his 83rd T20I.

“It sounds fine, we qualify for the Super 8s, that's a nice feeling. Enjoying bowling, being encouraged to take wickets by the captain, just trying to do my thing mate. We are happy (to qualify), first step in trying to take the trophy home, but long way to go,” Zampa who was adjudged ‘Player of the match’ said in the post-match presentation.
