The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that the Indian cricket team will be traveling for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be held in the West Indies and United States in two batches. The first batch will consist of players from the teams that won't qualify for the IPL playoffs. So far, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh are the confirmed names as both Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are eliminated from the playoff race.

The first batch of T20 World Cup-bound players along with the coaching staff will be leaving for US on May 24 and the second batch will take their flight on May 26 after the IPL 2024 Final. If there is not a big turnaround players from Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru might also travel with the first batch. Jay Shah said IPL was a great opportunity for players to sharpenm their skills ahead of the mega tournament.
“Look at how well Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma played the other day. If [Jasprit] Bumrah gets to bowl to Head, what better opportunity is there to practise?,” Jay Shah said during a media interaction at the BCCI headquarters.
