As the IPL 2024 comes to an end the focus of the cricketing world shifts to the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to be hosted by the United States and the West Indies, from June 2. This is the 9th edition of the marquee event, in which India will start their campaign against Ireland, on June 5. Rohit Sharma has been handed the captaincy of the Indian team along with the responsibility of ending the ICC trophy drought that has been going on for more than a decade and expectations have only gone since India's heartbreaking loss in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia.
The Indian team was at the receiving end of a lot of criticism after their embarrassing exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals due to the 10-wicket loss against England and for getting out of the league stage itself in the 2021 edition. The Men in Blue were the inaugural champion of the T20 World Cup and would try to regain that champion status. Everyone's eyes will be on the Indian captain, hoping that he fulfills the dream. Rohit Sharma and Shakib Al Hasan are the only two players in cricket to have played all the editions of this tournament so far. Between 2007 and 2022, Rohit has played 39 matches in the T20 World Cup, in which he has scored 963 runs.
Let's have a look at Rohit Sharma's performance over the years in T20 World Cups

Astonishing start to T20 World Cup campaign
Rohit Sharma made his debut in the T20 World Cup against England, but he did not get a chance to bat in that clash. He got that opportunity in the second match against South Africa and capitalizing on this opportunity, he scored 50 not out for which he even received the Player of the Match award. In the final of the 2007 World Cup, he played a big role in helping India win the title. He played a crucial inning of 30 not out against Pakistan.

Rohit Sharma's performance in T20 World Cup 2022
T20 World Cup 2022 was also Rohit's first assignment as captain in an ICC tournament. However, he failed to perform and lead his side from the front. It is the responsibility of the team's opening batter to score more runs in the powerplay through aggressive batting, which Rohit could not fulfill. He could only score 116 runs in 6 innings in that season at a disappointing strike rate of 106 and an average of 19.
Rohit has responsibility to give a good start
In this T20 World Cup also, it will be the responsibility of Rohit Sharma to give his team a blazing start in the powerplay. He played some excellent innings in the just-concluded IPL 2024. He scored 417 runs at an average of 150 in 14 matches for Mumbai Indians. Which also includes an astonishing knock of 105 runs not out.
