Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has denied committing to his participation in the series against India later this year. Bangladesh are scheduled to play a two-Test series in Pakistan. Then, they will be touring India for two Tests and three T20Is starting September 19. The 37-year-old all-rounder had a poor run in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2024 with a batting average of 18.50 and three wickets to his name in seven innings.
Shakib left Dhaka on July 1 for the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) where he will be representing the Los Angeles Knight Riders. Shakib will be playing the Global T20 in Canada and return for national duties in August for a probable two-match Test series against Pakistan. Shakib is uncertain about his plans post Pakistan tour.
‘Till now I am planning till the Pakistan series’
While taking to reporters before leaving for USA he said, “I don't have many plans. There is international cricket and there is a series against Pakistan and I am planning till that point of time and not planning beyond that. Now I don't have time to plan for three four years and so planning for three to six months is better and later will think about my next plan and so till now I am planning till the Pakistan series.”
“There are two T20 tournaments in front of me one is MLC and the other one is the Global T20 League in Canada and let me see where I stand after playing these two tournaments because I need to understand [how I feel]," he added.
Bangladesh’s run in T20 World Cup 2024
Shakib was one of the major reasons for Bangladesh’s dismal show at the T20 World Cup 2024. Bangladesh finished at the bottom of Group 2 of 2024 T20 World Cup losing all three games in Super 8. The Najmul Hossain Shanto was impressive in the first round defeating the likes of Sri Lanka, Nepal and Netherlands but failed to continue the winning momentum in Super 8.
Shakib also made headlines after he explained the situation regarding Taskin Ahmed missing the bus for Super 8 match against India. Taskin later clarified saying he was going to be dropped anyways.
