Former India captain Sourav Ganguly suggested team India to play freely in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 because they are a very good team. Rohit Sharma-led team India are qualified for the final without losing a single game. He also said that both batters and bowlers are doing a balanced performance in the marquee event.
Team India will face South Africa for the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 and this is the third time that India will feature in the final of the marquee event.
"I have no suggestion. I had made one suggestion at the start of the tournament Go and play freely because it's T20 format and they have done it They are a very strong team. I said that at the start also And to get to two World Cup finals in seven months It's the volumes of the capability of the team In World Cup, the batter and bowler are doing a balanced performance And the pitch is a good factor So how much of a factor is the pitch in the previous finals? Will you depend on the pitch" Ganguly told media.
Ganguly also lavished praise on Rohit Sharma for leading team India to the final of the marquee event. Under Rohit's captaincy, India have played the World Test Championship final, the ODI World Cup 2023 final, Won the Asia Cup and featured in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2022 and now the Men in Blue are just a win away from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
“He (Rohit) has played two World Cup finals where he has gone into the final unbeaten. That speaks of his captaincy and leadership quality and I’m not surprised because he became captain when I was the BCCI president and when Virat didn’t want to captain India anymore,” Ganguly added Ganguly.
“It took a lot of time to make him captain because he was not ready to captain. It took a lot of pushing from all of us to make him captain and I’m very happy to see the progress of Indian cricket under him,” he further added.
Rain may try to play its part, but there's a backup plan
A reserve day is in place for the final, ensuring a result even if the weather disrupts June 29's schedule. However, the priority remains completing the match on the original day. Only if a minimum of 10 overs per side isn't possible will the game move to the reserve day.
But what if rain spoils the T20 World Cup final's reserve day too?
In that case, both India and South Africa will be declared joint champions, similar to the 2002 Champions Trophy final between India and Sri Lanka.
