Former West Indies captain and legendary captain, Brian Lara has revealed his choice of players who should be part of India's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The ICC tournament, which is scheduled to begin just after the culmination of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), will present yet another golden opportunity for Team India to end their ICC trophy drought. The Men in Blue have not won a single ICC trophy since 2013.
The Team India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup is expected to be announced soon as the deadline for cricket boards to reveal the squad is May 1. Several former cricketer and pundits have done their brainstorming and given their ideal India squad for the marquee multi-national tournament.
In the latest, Brian Lara revealed his ideal 15-member India squad. Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill failed to make the cut while Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson received the nod from the legendary West Indian cricketer.
Brian Lara's India squad for 2024 T20 World Cup
Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Mayank Yadav.
Lara picks pace sensation Mayank Yadav
Apart from snubbing Rinku and Shubman, Lara made an interesting choice as he named Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav his ideal India squad for the T20 World Cup. Mayank's raw pace became a menace for batters during the initial stage of the 2024 IPL. After catching everyone's attention, Mayank went down with an injury and is yet to make a comeback into the LSG's playing XI.
It is highly unlikely that the selectors will name Mayank Yadav in the World Cup squad, particularly because he hasn't bowled a ton of overs.
India is slated to begin their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5.
