Rohit Sharma's Team India will be facing the defending champions Jos Buttler-led England in the second semi-final of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, on June 27 (Thursday). The rain threat is looming large on this big match. The winner of this match will face South Africa in the Final of this mega-tournament. Ahead of the big clash, former English captain Michael Vaughan has slammed the Guyana groundstaff for not covering the whole outfield despite heavy rain.
What happens if rain causes a washout?
There is a heavy chance of rainfall and thunderstorms as per the Guyana weather forecast. The precipitation chances can go up to 60 per cent and are most likely to play spoilsport. We can constantly expect a stop-start type of game but hopefully, it won't result in complete abandonment like some previous games in this mega tournament. This game is extremely crucial for the English side as if rain causes a washout, their qualification chances would come to an end even without playing it and India would qualify for the finals along with South Africa.
Michael Vaughan slams Guyana ground staff
The pictures of Providence Stadium in Guyana show that the ground staff has only put covers on the pitches and the area near it and the rest of the outfield has been uncovered. The Guyana region has been witnessing persistent rain for the past few days and this would have left the outfield wet. This didn't seem right with Michael Vaughan considering the importance of this game and the situation England team is in and he slammed the Guyana staff.
"So huge rain forecasted. It’s the monsoon season so I get it .. so why so few covers for the whole outfield !!!!! surely you get more covers so we cover the whole ground," wrote Michael Vaughan replying to a tweet sharing Guyana ground's picture.
