Indian cricket team gave legendary Rahul Dravid a perfect farewell after defeating South Africa by 7 runs to win the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, on June 29 (Saturday). Dravid's tenure as the Indian head coach comes to an end with this historic win that ended India's 11-year-long trophy drought. However, Dravid had one last request to Virat Kohli as the Indian head coach which he told him in the dressing room.
Rahul Dravid's final request to Virat Kohli
A video from India's dressing room after India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph is going viral all over the internet at a rapid pace. In the video, Virat can be seen bringing the trophy to the dressing room which is followed by a high-five from Rahul Dravid. The legendary cricketer who is also known as the ‘Wall of India’ told Virat that he has now won all white-ball ICC trophies and now only is left with the red one which he should next time.
Virat won the ODI World Cup back in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013, both under the leadership of MS Dhoni, and now the T20 World Cup as well with Rohit Sharma-led Indian side. However, the only ICC title that he has not won yet is the World Test Championship title. He has competed in both WTC Finals yet but unfortunately fell short in both of them. He will again be having this opportunity in 2025 if India manage to seal the spot in the WTC Final for the third consecutive time.
Dravid happy to win his first World Cup trophy
Rahul Dravid won his first-ever World Cup title as the coach, something which he could not do as a player. However, the legend was still humble in the victory and said he did not see it as a redemption for the 2007 ODI World Cup.
"Firstly, there is no redemption. I am not one of those guys who thinks about redemption and those kind of things. There are a lot of other players I know who have not been able to win a trophy. I was lucky to be given the opportunity to coach, and I was lucky that this bunch of boys made it possible for me to be able to win a trophy and celebrate. Nice feeling, but it's not like I am aiming for some redemption, it's just a job that I was doing. I loved doing the job, I loved working with Rohit and this team. It's been a great journey and I have really enjoyed it," Dravid said after the match.
