In the clash between the two unbeaten teams in ICC men's T20 World Cup 2024, India will take on South Africa at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on June 29 (Saturday). While South Africa have made it to their first-ever T20 World Cup final, India have managed to reach the stage after a long gap of a decade. However, once again, rain may play spoilsport in the final encounter.
Thunderstorms may play spoilsport
According to Accuweather, thunderstorms may affect the high-voltage clash between two quality sides. "Cloudy, winds gradually subsiding and humid with a thunderstorm in parts of the area," mentions the weather forecast from Accuweather.
Thunderstorms are expected early in the morning. The groundstaff will be expected to cover the entire ground. If it rains, the outfield will be affected and the start of the final will be delayed. Rain may not affect the rest of the game. However, thunderstorms are likely to return towards the end of the game.
While chances of the game getting washed out are not high on June 29, if it happens, then the final will be played on the reserve day. But before moving on to the reserve day, ICC will make "every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day with any necessary reduction in overs taking place and only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day".
Is there a reserve day for final? What if the game gets washed out?
Like the second semifinal between India and England, a minimum of 10 overs per side game will need to take place to decide the champion. Also, if the game is not completed on June 29, on the reserve day, the game will resumed where it was left instead of a restart.
If the game is not completed on the reserve day due to rain, Rohit Sharma’s India and Aiden Markram-led South Africa will share the trophy.
