Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi who is the ambassador of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 revealed his conversation with India's legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh during the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 clash. India won that match by six runs in a nail-biter clash against the arch-rivals at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on Sunday, June 9.
While chasing the target of 120 runs, Babar Azam-led Pakistan were looking comfortable. After the 13th over, Pakistan were on 73 for the loss of 2 wickets. After that Hardik Pandya bowled a bouncer to get rid of Fakhar Zaman with a bouncer which led to Pakistan's downfall. After Zaman's wicket, Pakistan needed 47 runs from 47 balls and had 7 wickets in their hands. But after that Bumrah picked up Mohammad Rizwan's wicket and that helped India to beat the arch-rivals.
"Lala, why are you sad? What happened," Yuvraj said in the video, walking up to Afridi. "My being sad is right or wrong? Was this a match we (Pakistan) should have lost?" the former Pakistan all-rounder asked his counterpart.
"When we were left to score 40 runs, Yuvraj told me 'Lala, congratulations! I am leaving, won't watch the rest of the game'. I told him 'Yuvi, chaallis runs boht hain Iss pitch pe. Itni jaldi mubarakbad na de mujhe (40 runs are a lot on this pitch, don't congratulate me so early)," Afridi added.
"I told you Pakistan will win, but I was still confident that we (India) can win it from there," Yuvraj told Afridi at the end of the video. "Winning and losing is part of the game, what's important is that our bonhomie should continue."
Last edition's runners-up Pakistan are still looking for their maiden victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup. They lost their opener clash against co-host USA and after that India beat them by six runs. Now, Babar Azam-led side are facing Canada for their third outing.
