According to sources, the Team India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia is set to be announced on Monday, September 12, with a majority of the players set to be chosen from India's unsuccessful Asia Cup campaign.
In a major boost pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who were recovering from their respective injuries at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, will return to the team after missing out on playing in the Asia Cup. The 15-man squad will be selected from the Asia Cup, and it will be interesting to see which players are omitted to make place for Bumrah and Harshal.
The team will fly to Australia on October 5 after their T20I series against South Africa and will skip the ensuing ODI series with Shikhar Dhawan touted to be the skipper and VVS Laxman to coach the side.
Not many surprises are expected in the squad, although the debate of whether veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik will make the team is a big point of contention. The 37-year-old was a regular in their T20I squad and has established himself as a finisher but his chances in the Asia Cup were limited despite the failings of regular wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.
Meanwhile, following Ravindra Jadeja's injury during the Asia Cup, he had a successful surgery but is set to miss out on the flight to Australia for the World Cup.
India have had dismal performances in their last two international tournaments. The Men in Blue were unable to move out of the group stages, finishing behind Pakistan and New Zealand and in the Asia Cup, they lost to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4s to get themselves eliminated from the competition.
