Team India might suffer another blow in less than three days as Men in Blue's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah could be doubtful for the marquee T20 World Cup after being ruled out of the imminent Asia Cup 2022 owing to back injury.
A BCCI official has confirmed the development to Insidesport and said that the pacer needs to managed carefully.
However, India's star bowler is now undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy with no definite date for his comeback.
“Yes, it’s concerning. He is back in rehab and will get the best medical advice available. The problem is it’s his old injury and that is what is concerning. We have just two months left for the World Cup and he has got this injury at the worst possible time. We are closely monitoring his condition. He is the best bowler in cricket and needs to be carefully managed,” an official told Insidesport.
Bumrah missed the West Indies series owing to his troubled back and was about to make a comeback in the Asia Cup but again he had to sit out of India's squad. However, in Bumrah's absence, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the Indian bowling pack while Mohammed Shami has also been reportedly informed that he isn't in the scheme of things in T20Is.
Meanwhile, India had a forgettable run at 2021 T20 WC as they could only secure three wins before slumping out from the league stage. The Virat Kohli-led side's wins came against Scotland, Afghanistan and Namibia.
