With the marquee T20 World Cup 2022 closing in, South Africa have announced their star pacer Marco Jansen as Dwaine Pretorius' replacement in the 15-member squad.
Earlier, the 33-year-old South African all-rounder Pretorius was ruled out of the ICC's showpiece tournament owing to an injury in his left thump during the just concluded T20I series against India which the Rohit Sharma & Co. won 2-1. However, Jansen was initially part of the travelling reserves before storming into the main squad, which meant the arrival of another pacer in Lizaad Williams in the reserves as his replacement, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) stated in a release.
Jansen was part of the T20I squad in the recent series against India but didn't get a game. He replaced Pretorius for the ODI series before finding a place in the T20 World Cup squad.
Jansen represented South Africa in just one T20I during their tour of India in June this year. He had taken one wicket for 38 runs in the Rajkot match. He also played seven Tests and three ODIs for South Africa.
South Africa will begin their campaign in the T20 showpiece against a qualifying team on October 24 in Australia.
Meanwhile, India thrashed South Africa by seven wickets and nearly 30 overs to spare in the third one-day international and completed a comeback series win on Tuesday.
After South Africa was bowled out for 99, its lowest ODI total against India. India's star spinner Kuldeep Yadav was pick of the bowlers with a brilliant spell of 4/18. Post which the home side polished off the chase in 19.1 overs as they scored 105/3 in quick time, and the scheduled innings’ break was not needed.
