In the wake of India’s yet another disappointing performance at the ICC tournament where the Men in Blue faced a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England, several pundits and fans have targeted captain Rohit Sharma for his ineptitude in leadership. Former India cricketer Atul Wassan also joined the chorus and launched an acerbic attack on Rohit and his poor captaincy. Wassain didn't mince words and made some bold claims.

The former Indian cricketer believes that retaining Rohit as captain will do the team no good as Rohit’s age (35) is against him. Wassan backed younger players such as Hardik Pandya or Rishabh Pant to take the mantle of captaincy.

"Yes, I feel so (that Rohit’s time as India’s T20 captain is over). You always plan between two World Cups and I don’t think Indian cricket will gain anything by retaining him as captain. We won’t get any return for such an investment," Wassan said on ABP News.

Wassan also came down heavily on the Indian team for their underwhelming performance with the bat.

"I am still besides myself, can't believe what happened. I felt as if India batted in Adelaide and England in Sharjah," he added.

The enormity of India’s defeat was like an elephant in the room which made Wassan take a swipe at the captaincy of Rohit, under whose leadership India has now dealt with exits in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. He went so far as to accuse the Indian captain of not even calling the shots anymore and that he was looking for a place to hide.

"We could see two levels of cricketers. At least something should have happened. You can't even find a fault. I feel that you can't blame the captaincy. After all, it was the team management that was taking all decisions. Rohit Sharma did not take a single call. He only decided where to hide on the field," Wassan opined.
