Pakistan's out-of-favour wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has been served with a legal notice by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja for his alleged defamatory and offensive comments in the media. As per a report by PTI, a source close to Kamran confirmed that on the behalf of Raja, the legal department of PCB has served him the notice.
"I don't know exactly what charges they have made against Kamran but apparently the legal notice has been sent because the chairman feels Kamran made defamatory, false and offensive comments on the media about him," the source said.
Many former Pakistan cricketers have criticised the chairman and PCB team management of late on their respective Youtube channels. It is learnt that this could be a first of many legal notices to these players.
"Some of them clearly cross the line while criticising the team, management, board and chairman and Ramiz has made it clear he is not going to tolerate anyone running down or defaming Pakistan cricket anymore,” the source said.
This comes after scathing attacks were launched against Babar Azam-led side, PCB and team management after their first two losses to India and Zimbabwe at the Super 12 stage of recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
While some used constructive criticism over Babar's missteps as captain and as batter, some former players made offensive remarks. The board has now directed the legal team to send notices to any former cricketer who makes false and offensive comments either on their own Youtube channel or on television.
After Pakistan’s loss to England in the final at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 13, many criticised Babar’s decisions on the field. Also, the opener had a torrid season with the bat and scored runs at a dismal strike rate.
He had scored just 39 runs from five innings at the group stage before scoring a half-century in the semi-final against New Zealand. In the final, he played himself in and threw his wicket in the middle overs which prevented Pakistan from posting a par score on the board.
