Mohammad Hafeez launches scathing attack on Babar Azam, criticises Pakistan skipper of poor captaincy

The 2022 T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan will be indelibly edged in the history of the game. On the back of Virat Kohli's jaw-dropping knock with the bat, India stole a victory from the jaws of defeat. In other words, the Men in Blue clinched a game they had no business winning. So apart from Kohli's masterclass, what were some of the other reasons behind Pakistan's confidence-shattering defeat at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23 (Sunday)?

Well, if you ask Pakistan's former captain Mohammad Hafeez, he seems to have a straightforward answer. The former all-rounder didn't mince his words while pinning the blame on captain Babar Azam for the Men in Green's defeat against arch-rivals India. Hafeez launched a scathing attack on Babar and said that the current Pakistan skipper is prone to making mistakes and people seem to overlook his poor decision-making at regular intervals.

"Babar Azam's captaincy is like a sacred cow that cannot be criticized. It's the third consecutive big game that we are seeing flaws in Babar captaincy, but we keep hearing that by the time he gets to the age of 32 he will learn. In today's match, from the 7th over till the 11th over, when India were struggling for even 4 runs an over, why did Babar not fulfil the spin quota overs in that time frame," Hafeez told Rahi Cricket.

With 16 runs needed in the last over, Babar turned to Mohammad Nawaz with all other bowlers having finished their quota of overs. As it turned out, the left-arm spinner failed to get the job done while bowling a no-ball that made things even worse for the one-time T20 World Cup champions.

After the game, however, Babar called Nawaz his 'match-winner' during an animated speech in the dressing room.
