The blockbuster movie MS Dhoni: The untold story lived up to its name and billing when it went beyond the boundary of Dhoni’s famous six to win India its second World Cup title after 24 years. It gave us an extensive peek into Dhoni’s life from a kid who went on to lead India’s cricket team while shouldering the hopes of more than one billion people.
Aside from cricket we learnt about Dhoni’s love life and how the woman he was besotted with could not be his soulmate but soon the ideal love of his life paired up with him.
Not Sakshi but someone else who came into Dhoni’s life first
It was not love at first sight for Dhoni who is expressive with the bat but reticent when it comes to love and romance. Dhoni met what is seen as the first love of his life Priyanka Jha. A story between two young birds who fell for each other that not even a lot of die-hard Dhoni fans were aware of. Dhoni bumped into Priyanka as someone who was new to the Indian team finding his feet.
As luck would have it the two fell in love and envisaged a future together but soon tragedy struck, and the awe-inspiring love story was cut short.
As Dhoni was rising through the ranks with his ballistic innings and making headlines, he was kept in the dark about the incident which took place with the love of his life with whom he had plans to walk down the aisle.
Priyanka met with a fatal accident where a lorry crashed into her car and tipped it over. She succumbed to the injury and lost her life, this understandably left Dhoni devastated, and it took him a long time to recover from the tragic reality.
MS DHONI AND SAKSHI: THE UNTOLD STORY
Though the movie showed a lot of facets and phases of Dhoni’s life, what it leaves out is the fact that the families of Dhoni and Sakshi already had made each other’s acquaintance long before the two had tied knots.
The father of Sakshi and Dhoni had a job in the same company, MECON, in Ranchi. The two families had good relations and knew each other very well. Sakshi and Dhoni even went to the same school but soon Sakshi’s family moved to Dehradun and the two were separated until they met again as grown-ups who would spend the rest of their lives together.
Jab Dhoni and Sakshi met
After nearly more than a decade the stars aligned, and life had come full circle as the two crossed paths again. This time it was in the ‘City of Joy’ – Kolkata, Taj Bengal where the Indian team was staying. It was during the months of November-December 2007. India were playing against Pakistan at the Eden Gardens. Sakshi was working there as an intern with Taj Bengal and it was her last day interning with the team. She was introduced to Dhoni by his manager Yudhajit Dutta who she was friends with. MS was stumped and fell head over heels for her and asked for her number and texted her. Sakshi had prior knowledge of Dhoni’s stay at the hotel as informed by her mother, what she was unaware of is of who Dhoni was by his name. She was filled in by her mother that a Pahadi cricketer is staying at the hotel as a native Pahadi herself, and she was excited to meet him.
After getting her number, Dhoni proceeded to text her and after a lot of courting and wooing, the couple started to date in March 2008 when Sakshi was seen at parties with Dhoni and matches cheering for her to-be husband.
The famous couple became united when in the year 2010, Sakshi became a Dhoni and the two got hitched in the year 2010, on July 4. Dhoni and Sakshi went on to have an adorable baby girl who they named Ziva.
The affair which was kept away from the eyes of the media.
Not many know this but for the most part Dhoni- Sakshi affair and wedding were kept at bay from the media attention and the media did not even get a whiff of what was cooking between the two. It was until the day of the wedding the world got to know about a girl named Sakshi who was going to be a public figure too being the wife of one of India’s greatest cricket captains.
