England Cricket on September 7 (Wednesday) named Alex Hales as the replacement for injured Jonny Bairstow. Hales, who last played for the national side back in 2019, will now be a part of England's T20 World Cup squad which will travel to Australia next month. The 33-year-old has also been included in England's squad for the seven-match T20I series against Pakistan. Bairstow sustained a left ankle injury last week after England's win against South Africa in the second Test match, which drew curtains to his chances of playing in the ICC tournament.
Meanwhile, Hales boats an impeccable record in T20Is for the Three Lions. The swashbuckling right-handed batter has amassed 1,644 runs in 60 matches at an average of 31.01 and a strike rate of 136.65. He has smashed eight half-centuries and one century in the shortest format of the game for England. Hales is also among the handful of batters who have scored more than 10,000 runs in T20s.
