T20 World Cup: Sunil Gavaskar talks down need for chopping and changing India's Playing XI ahead of crucial Bangladesh tie

India and Bangladesh face off against each other for their fourth match of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Adelaide on Wednesday, November 2. In what is a crucial tie for either side, a win for India will take them one step closer to the semifinals, but in order to do so, they will need their opener KL Rahul to shove off the blues and get some important runs.

Ahead of the crucial tie, former skipper Sunil Gavaskar was of the opinion that India should not make too many changes to the team,  "Look, there should not be many team changes in these kinds of matches. Because then it disturbs the balance of the team. When you go to play tournaments, you already know your playing XI. Now if Dinesh Karthik is injured then Rishabh Pant can get a chance. Rest, I think Deepak Hooda is also going to remain in the team."

He also expects one of the management members to have a word with Rahul to remind him of his talents, pinpointing the role of mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton. “We have Paddy Upton as the mental conditioning coach and if he has not done anything with him. While the batting coach can tell him his mistakes, there is a need for the mental conditioning coach to talk with the player to increase his confidence. He should tell Rahul that he has got the talent and he can score big runs,” said Gavaskar.

“Look, you have just played three matches and you have to play a total of 5 matches in the Super 12 stage. You do not have any other opener, I do not think you have an opener who can take the place of Rahul. So you need to show patience with him, we know what he can do when he is in full flow. I think someone needs to have a word with him,” he added.
